CBS News is planning an ambitious turn-of-decade look at America's position in the world that's also designed as an opening competitive shot at Diane Sawyer.
Called "CBS Reports: Where America Stands," the series will look at issues such as health care, the military, the economy and crime.
Reporters will show what was happening 10 years ago and compare it to now, with predictions about how things will be at the start of the 2020s.

Holding back tears, Oprah Winfrey told her studio audience Friday that she would end her show in 2011 after a quarter-century on the air, saying "prayer and careful thought" led to her decision.
Winfrey told the audience that she loved "The Oprah Winfrey Show," that it had been her life and that she knew when it was time to say goodbye.
"Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and feels right in my spirit," she said.

She was the second castaway to be tossed from this season's Survivor - self-described puppet-master Russell Hantz had her pegged her as a threat almost from the start - and her stay in Samoa was short.
But Bristol's Betsy Bolan will have plenty to say about her experience on CBS's popular reality show tonight in Northfield.
Bolan, a part-time police officer and mother of four, will speak at an event to benefit the Youth Assistance Program of Northfield, Tilton and Sanbornton.

there are worse things that could happen to both america and the kid than him becoming a productive member of society.

(CBS) Las Vegas is a city built on a gamble, but now it wants to be seen as a sure bet.
So it's taking its show on the road.
The city is sending dancers to Hollywood and launching a series of snarky new ads on California air waves, reports CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy .
You've got to get out of dodge, we call it running for the border, you've got to run for the border and come to Las Vegas because it's a totally different ballgame -Somer Hollingsworth

I said before that if Oprah leaves Chicago, it won't be good for us.
Well, now that she's announced the end of her CBS-syndicated show, my opinion remains unchanged.
Since Discovery Communications , the company that's going to partner with her for her OWN cable network, isn't located in Chicago (except for a sales office), that means that a lot of resources and opportunities are going to disappear from our fair city.

I have all but abandoned your TV channel as what you place on TV can not be considered entertainment. I've moved away and gone to USA, The Outdoor channel, Military Channel, TBN, and the Discovery Channel. When you cancelled "The Unit" it was the last straw for myself and my family. I am going to be as outspoken as possible as I can to everyone that I can Working in a large medical Practice affords me the ability to do this.
I think what happens to those who speak out concerning your programing are discounted and forgotten as fringe viewers, but how wrong you are.
Respectfully,
Mick Batton
